The Fall of Fall

Fall has fallen, like a curtain, here in Buffalo, Wyoming. I am in love with the oranges and reds, fallen leaves a colorful carpet on lawns, the chill winds, and cool temperatures. It seems to have happened overnight.

I dreaded Septembers in Los Angeles, when temperatures soared into the 100s, and people took refuge in Starbucks with a cold Frappuccino. But now September may just become one of my favorite months of the year.

There is something wonderful about real seasons that mark the passing of time, and it shows in the people. Birth, aging, and death are part of the natural cycle.

The dogs are not as thrilled as me, but what do you expect from naked little creatures? Now we have to dress them in sweaters, and when I open the back door to let them out, they run to the living room or bedroom and cuddle up on blankets. We have to carry them down the back steps to the lawn, where they take care of business as quickly as possible, and then run inside. But once the temperatures soar into the 50s and the sun is shining, they love to frolic in the backyard.

When winter comes, I think we'll have to open a window and stick their little butts outside. But that's winter, and that's another season.
